How You Can Help
Interested in helping our environment? Here are some ways in which you can contribute to the environment!
Small Steps You Can Take
These are some steps you can take everyday at home, or in your everyday walk of life.
Don't Use Straws
We all know it, straws are a part of our everyday lives. Whether we are eating a meal at
our favourite fast-food restaurant, drinking a refreshing drink, we will use straws. Plastic
straws seems very simple and convenient, but it causes a complex issue in our environment. It actually
takes up to 200 years for a plastic straw to decompose, and each year, about 1 million seabirds and
100,000 marine animals die from ingesting plastic.
Next time, think twice before taking up a straw. Think about all the resources and the lives of the animals you can save!
Reduce Use of Appliances
Sometimes, we use appliances like it is a given - when air conditioners are unavailable,
we feel as though we cannot take the heat. In this day and age, most of us are considered fortunate
enough to afford the usage of appliances. We fail to recognise that we used to be able to survive with
just fans, and sometimes even without!
As a first step, you can start by keeping the air conditioner's temperature above 25°C. Once you are comfortable with it, try using a fan instead of an AC. This will reduce the release of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which contributes to global warming.
Also, if the weather is very hot and humid, you may want to consider not using your water heater while showering - this saves energy as well!
Use Your Own Containers and Bottles
As with straws, these are very common in our everyday lives. Containers (whether plastic or styrofoam) and plastic bottles are also very detrimental to the environment. These take ages to decompose, so it takes up a large portion of our landfills. When buying food, try to dine in, our bring your own reusable containers. Try not to buy bottled water as well! They are usually used once and thrown immediately, which is a huge waste.
Of course, these are not all we can do. There are many other small steps to take such as showering under 15 minutes to reduce water usage, not washing vegetables under a running tap, taking public transport or cycling instead of using a personal car and many others. It is our responsibility to take the first step to help save the environment.
If you would like to help our movement "Environmentality",
where we aim to use fundings for clearing land spaces, oceans,
restoration of forests and many other ways that we can find to help the
environment, please donate to us so that we can help make this world a better
place to stay and live in.
All donation sums are appreciated.
